3e. I know that in solids the atoms are closely locked in position and can only vibrate; in liquids the atoms and molecules are more loosely connected & can collide with and move past one another; and in gases the atoms and molecules are free to move independently, colliding frequently.
1. Justify how this project/activity/assignment meets the standard, using evidence from the standard itself to demonstrate your mastery and/or understanding.
Through the project I was able to physically see and create a model of the atoms within the different states of matter. For the solid type the molecules are tightly packed and only can vibrate, and only have little motion. For the liquid type the molecules are loosely connected but not free, the molecules collide frequently with others and have a move in a medium pace. For the gas type the molecules move freely with no specific pattern, they collide frequently and move in a fast motion. This assignment met all the expectations of this standard, it demonstrates mastery because I am capable to differentiate between the different states of matter.
2. Elaborate on at least 1 Science & Engineering Practice you feel you met/gained from completing this project.
I've gained a better understanding of the different stages of matter through this project, because I can physically create how these atoms would be arranged in matter. This is a skill that is important to know because to be a physicist you must understand the molecular level of matter to understand the universe. I gain knowledge that matter can never be created or destroyed but arranged differently, which is why matter will never have a different type of mass. Knowing this will help me further understand why the universe is the way it is, because a physicists must know why matter can never be created and destroyed and why they are arranged as they are. Understanding this will give me a advantage when studying to become a physiscts because I will be ahead of my peers when knowing the types of matter.
3. Upon reflecting on your work/experience and/or score, what is ONE SEP you could have done better on? How will improving in this SEP benefit future work/projects? Give me next steps for improving in this SEP.
I feel I could have precise detail in the project. Because my images were very basic and vague, I should have detailed it more for it to become informative. Knowing this will benefit me in future assignment by creating images that show exactly how the concept physcially looks and moves.Next time I do a a project I will be more careful when it comes to detail and attention. So I can comprehend the project much better.
4. How will you presently apply the content and skills you learned from this assignment in the real-world, outside of the classroom? Make connections between the content and your life.
Knowing this concept will help me better understand other concepts that revolve around the study of the universe. States of matter have a big role in the work of physics because quantum physicists mainly work to understand energy, matter, and universal consciousness in the universe. Quantum physics is the career I'm pursuing because studying and and answering questions about the universe is what I dream of accomplishing, and having gained the knowledge from the both the standard and project I will further extend my knowledge about the universe. Even when I am a professor I will use the states of matter to create pops tickles and use it for the small the things in life, as cooking, work, and just for my amusement.
